E-books are digital
publications, namely, the texts using electronic records
instead of paper as support. They may be called electronic
book (e-) book, or a digital book

E-books enjoy a few tools that make reading easier. These
tools enable the reader to find the words in the text,
underline phrases, make comments, look up words in the
dictionary, among others. Many times, the books make use of
digital multimedia audio and video. A book on the Internet
can also have links pointing to other books available on the
web.
E-books by various
authors and publishers are protected by copyright law so
that they may not be copied unless the author or the
publisher allows. Digital books can be opened only on a
computer or portable device that has been saved after the
download. In this way, they may not be reproduced or copied
to other computers. In general, e-books downloaded from the
Internet through the services offered by libraries
specializing in this type of texts.
