A typeface is a selection
of letters stylistically related and collectively constitute
a family of alphabets, which can be used for typesetting.
Typeface design usually includes numbers and symbols that
have been designed to blend stylishly with the alphabet used
in the basic design. It is also possible to design entirely
symbolic characters, such as special products used by
mathematicians, and characters are available in all
languages.
Historically, a designer
of characters to create the desired look and feel, and then
the specific characteristics needed for the type cast.
Printers could sort the different characters, as necessary
to meet their needs, and each font has been specially
designed and scaled to higher resolution in the desired
format and style. Since most work on the computers of today,
it is very easy to change fonts within a font with the click
of a button, but this process was once much more involved,
and required great skill on the part the designer and the
foundry that cast the type + + type.
